We Have Wheels!

After a couple of months walking through the streets or using taxis and busses, we were walking from our house out towards the main highway one Sunday morning, when our mission president drove up and offered us a ride. But he didn’t unlock his car. “Why don’t you use your own car?” he asked. And there, behind him, was his wife in another car, which they were delivering to us!

We really appreciate being able to travel all over our district, visiting people and going from one chapel to another to deliver training or attend meetings. We also appreciate being able to go home for lunch or for a bathroom break mid-day! This week we made cookies for the youth who attended an all-day youth conference. We also delivered a half-hour presentation on the Personal Progress and Duty to God programs–though the cookies definitely made a bigger impact.

Our favorite part of the youth conference was the talent show, complete with dancing and lip-synching. An amazing 80 youth aged 12-18 attended and danced in the 99 degree heat!

Here is the ode I wrote in honor of our car:  And it came to pass that as we arose in the morning and went forth to the house door, to our great astonishment, we beheld in the driveway a great chariot of curious workmanship.

And within the device, was a great wheel, and the wheel pointed the way whither we should go into the city.
And it came to pass that we did gather together whatsoever things we should carry into the city, and we did take every bottle of water, and book of scripture, and list of names and depart into the city.
And behold, we drove past many a rivulet of filthy water, wandering beasts, and mists of smoke, holding fast to the iron wheel, pressing downward and never departing from the way.  And we beheld around us a great rushing of many chariots, like as whirlwinds, and horses not a few.  Yea, and ox carts, and bicycles, and motorcycles, and street vendors, and busses, and taxis that rattled and roared as great lions with breaths of fire. Yea, and numberless concourses of people pressing forward that they might obtain the path on which we also went forth.
And it came to pass that we did travel for the space of ten minutes nearly in a southeast direction, and we did come into the city and did enter into many houses, marveling at the power of our chariot to carry us whithersoever we were led.
And there cannot any man work after the manner of so curious workmanship. And now behold, we know that is was delivered unto us by two angels, sent to aid us in our journey and direct us in the way we should go.  And behold we did give thanks for this great gift and its marvelous power.
